Sharda Maternity Hospital – Dharmaj
The Sharda Maternity Hospital project is one of DHASOL’s most prestigious
projects based in the Jalaram Janseva Trust, Viraktashram Complex, Dharmaj.
The society has always regularly donated towards the restructure or building of
existing hospitals and schools – however this hospital was built stone by
stone for Dharmaj, after the proposal was brought to the Executive Committee. With
the support we received from society members at our Annual General Meetings, and
also wider support from members of other samaj’s, this project began to unfold
and the hospital is now in its fourth successful year.
Since the opening on 25th January 2004, a grand total of 1,692 babies have been
born in the hospital. This is in addition to other treatments that are now available
- has resulted in 35,092 outpatients appointments as well as 856 operations. What
was primarily built to be a maternity hospital, it can now offer many other general
operations and treatments. Our objectives were to provide a clean, safe and hygienic
environment for expecting mothers and their newborns. We have been able to provide
much more than just that, by serving patients who were in need of a hernia operation
or hysterectomy for example.

The whole project was completed within the initial budget (£250,000 total
cost). The hospital has seen an increase in general patient flows for both its out
patient services and also bookings for child births. Adhering to the philosophy
of “serving the community and the surrounding areas it was built for”
– the charges for services are completely affordable, whilst the air conditioned
rooms on the second floor provide privacy and comfort for the more affluent patients.

Sharda Maternity’s first delivery…. January 2004
|
The hospital in its short life so far has already achieved a lot, ranging from the
visit of dignitaries from Ghana and Nigeria – to see how we manage a hospital
in a rural environment, to the favourable independent articles written by media
both locally within India and also coverage on Zee TV UK.
The different sections of the Jalaram Janseva complex (including the maternity hospital)
all work together for the benefit of the patients and the wider community. In general,
the hospital, its staff, and the supporters that have been involved in this amazing
project, would like to do more and help a lot more people. To do this, we rely on
the support from our loyal members and hope that their kind donations will continue
to favour the hospital.

We hope that our members and their
families will always continue to support the work towards the hospital, and be just
as proud of it as we are.
